The Stage 2 Disinfectant By-Product (DBP) Rule sets stringent MCLs for DBPs.  Some utilities need to reduce levels to meet these regulations.  This webcast presents several approaches to control DBPs and reveals how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling techniques can be used to optimise chlorination and reduce DBP formation.  Alternatively, granular activated carbon (GAC) is commonly used for this purpose.  Applications where this can be cost-effective are presented.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply CFD modeling techniques to optimise chlorination and reduce formation of DBPs
  • Assess the use of GAC to control DBP concentration
  • Analyse UV applications for disinfection and effects of DBPs.
