Water utilities are faced with ongoing challenges in the effort to continuously comply with Disinfection By-Products (DBP) regulations. The Stage 2 DBP Rule requires control of disinfection by-products while the Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule may require elevated disinfection requirements. There are several strategies that can be used to achieve the necessary DBP control: precursor removal, alternative disinfectants, and DBP removal. This webcast explores some compliance approaches for these strategies.
Learning Objectives:
- Review DBP control strategies
- Examine the effect of changing source water quality or alternative source waters on compliance at plants using enhanced coagulation and alternative disinfectants.
- Assess conditions where aeration may be suitable for trihalomethane (THM) control.
