Date: March 23, 2011

Time: 1 – 2:30 pm

Location: i2C Room (2nd Floor, Galbraith Building)

*******************

The use of ultraviolet (UV) to treat drinking water has become more prevalent since it was found to be effective to inactivate Cryptosporidium.   Although UV is a proven technology, there are some myths surrounding its use. This webcast provides basic information about UV and how it disinfects drinking water.  The regulations regarding the application of UV are examined to clarify CT calculations (C is the disinfectant concentration and T is the contact time) and Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR) disinfection credits.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the mechanisms and processes of UV disinfection.
  • Identify the factors that affect compliance with disinfection regulations.
  • Demonstrate some methods of optimising UV system operation and maintenance.
